St. Thorlak Icon Print

$8.99
Size: 3.5"X5"

Estella wrote this icon at twelve years old. The original features gold leaf — a demanding technique that even experienced iconographers approach with great care.

One of the lesser-known treasures of the Christian iconographic tradition, St. Thorlak of Iceland is a saint of deep integrity and quiet heroism. A 12th-century bishop who devoted his life to reforming the church in Iceland, he was canonized in 1198 and is the patron saint of Iceland and of those with autism. In the Byzantine style, he is depicted in the vestments of a bishop — omophorion draped across his shoulders, the Gospel book held close — his expression one of steady, unhurried holiness. Please note that while every effort has been made to faithfully reproduce the original, the luminosity of gold leaf may render differently in print. Estella's rendering of this rare and remarkable saint makes this a truly distinctive piece, meaningful for those with Icelandic heritage, those in the autism community, or anyone drawn to the lesser-known saints of the North.
